Collecting Art - From An Artists Perspective

Flamenco Dancer in Red © Kristye Addison Dudley Painting ready to ship to it's new home. Art in itself is a subjective and very personal experience. The proprietors of the work, the collectors, have such a large impact on the art world. There is something for everyone, but finding your perfect match is not always so easy to do when there is so much to choose from. Some of my proudest moments in my art career stem from finding a new collector. Someone who "gets me." As an artist I have found my collectors making such a positive impact on my work not only financially, but by providing creative confidence. When an artist and collector find a match, it can be one of the most important components to an artist sustained career. I have also noticed that there is one common thread to my collectors, they like my work. This may sound so simple, but it really is. I have met buyers who search for the latest and greatest celebrity artists or masters for braggi...

It's a small world after all | Contemporary Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

I just taught my first palette knife class. It was such a great experience. I covered my basic techniques and tricks like dry painting and wet mixing. I am looking forward to my next class in August. It's a small world after all... The time has come! We are having our first Disney family vacation!!! We will be celebrating KJ's 5th day there. We surprised her with the trip. We took cupcakes to her classroom for her school party. Then we gave her some Minnie Mouse ears and told her we were on our way to DisneyWorld the next day! We had the most amazing trip and we are already thinking about going again. St Charles Street © Kristye Addison Dudley 8" x 10"  Watercolor and Ink on Paper Purchase Prints My husband and I enjoyed a Music Festival each night during our trip to New Orleans. The nights were loud and full of dancing. The days, however, were filled with relaxing walks through the Garden District. The old trees stretched across quite streets and wrapped us in light shadows in the hot summer heat. We had such an amazing trip, we can't wait to go back. We were able to walk out of our hotel and catch the trolley right on St Charles Street. This historic street is one of the main routes of the Mardi Gras Parade and has traces of beads in the tree lined streets all year round.  The sights and sounds of the city were mesmerizing. Toy Fire Truck by Contemporary Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

Toy Fire Truck © Kristye Addison Dudley 10" x 8" Watercolor on Paper Purchase Prints I am working on a unique portrait. A portrait of a 2 year old little girl and 5 year old little boy siblings' favorite toys. This is their mother's way to preserve this very sweet time in their lives. As I prepared for this work, it was very easy to find inspiration since my living room is usually sprinkled with the playthings of my 2 year old boy and 4 year old little girl.  I'll post more on the commission as it progresses. SOLD - Dragonfly in Flight © Kristye Addison Dudley 8" x 10" Watercolor on Paper | Purchase Prints During the month of June, I was encouraging my readers to send ideas for paintings. This painting was created as a study for a larger commission. One of my friends saw it and was drawn to it. Her sister just found out her cancer was in remission and this dragonfly will now be a symbol of her second chance. The reader said the following about this painting. " It will be our "logo" for God making her new again!!! " It is such an honor to be apart of such a joyous time. I wish her continued blessings and health. Day 5 - Wildflowers

Day 5 - Wildflowers (WIP) © Kristye Addison Dudley 6" x 4" Acrylic on Canvas Paper Day 5 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days Wildflowers (work in progress) for 99 Bottles of Art on the Wall. I am really enjoying working with landscapes. As a former athlete, I have always been drawn to the figure, but that is what this challenge is about. Stepping out of my comfort zone. Today was a very exciting day. Not only did I make it to day 5 of this challenge, but my family traveled to Tennessee to cheer on our niece as she competed in her final collegiate gymnastics meet. As a former gymnast, I remember the tears and sweat that goes into each meet. Seeing her perform with such power, grace and humility for her talent made me so proud. Her team finished first place in the NAIGC, and she placed 2nd all around out of 900 competitors from across the country and first place on vault. She is a reminder of how God gives us talents for his glory. There were so many people who admired h...

Day 3 - Because I'm Happy - Handpainted Foam Prints

Day 3 - Happiness: Triptych  each 3" x 4" on paper © Kristye Addison Dudley Day 3 - Happiness Prints As a part of my 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. I am going to experiment with new processes and just have some good old fashion fun in the studio without worrying about the outcome! This doodle was originally created during valentines day while painting with my 3 year old (which is always a highlight). I took a break from my painting and decided to do some simple prints from the sketch. My 3 year old daughter and 19 month old son fill our lives with laughter and playfulness. I wish we had more joyful, positive media surrounding us, so I created these prints with happiness in my heart. The process is below. I created 3 prints and hand painted two of them with accents. Step 1 - Supplies: Foam Sheets, Roller Brush, Paint Step 2 - Draw on the Foam Sheet (I used a simple ink pen) Step 3 - Roll on the paint Step 4 - Rub the painted side on a sheet of paper Step...

Hello 2014

Happy New Year, I hope this new year is treating everyone well. I have started the new year off well traveling, seeing family and renewing my passion for painting and all things creative. My husband and I took a couples trip to New York City and that place always sparks so much creative energy in me. There is something about the heartbeat and pulse of the city that I had been missing. I have decided to embrace all parts of me and try to make are without rules. My good friend Erin and I were chatting online and she always has something motivational to share. She reminded me to have fun. Sometimes, I get so concerned with making "good" art, that I don't want to make mistakes. How silly is that! The best art sometimes comes from mistakes. So it's time to have some fun in 2014!!! So, in doing so I am going to share more about my work, paintings in progress and studio life in general. You know, the mistakes, the trial and error, the paths less taken.  Hope you are rea...
