I’ll be the first to admit I don’t communicate well during the transition. Why you may ask? Because I become so hyper focused and channel all of my energy to the process. This time, it was another move. We moved from Ohio to Virginia in July. Many of my creative breaks happen during PCS (Permanent Change of Station) season. As a military family we have experienced 6 of these. My daughter is in the 7th grade and has attended 5 schools. My son is in the 4th grade and has already been in 4 schools. One of those school years was homeschool taught by me. My most “creative work” of late has been organizing school enrollment, arranging goodbye parties, an August birthday in May before we moved, planning camps in a new town, signing the kids up for teams, scouts, music lessons, and gathering school supplies. The proprietors of the work, the collectors, have such a large impact on the art world. There is something for everyone, but finding your perfect match is not always so easy to do when there is so much to choose from. Some of my proudest moments in my art career stem from finding a new collector. Someone who "gets me." As an artist I have found my collectors making such a positive impact on my work not only financially, but by providing creative confidence. When an artist and collector find a match, it can be one of the most important components to an artist sustained career. I have also noticed that there is one common thread to my collectors, they like my work. This may sound so simple, but it really is. We are also planni ng for o ur first family trip to Disney W orld ! I am so excited!!! Our kids don't know yet , and not telling them is so much fun.  This sketch was made in 2004 or 2005 while I was working on a number of bright figurative paintings. I may recreate this one with dancers with a palette knif e. I have a feeling after Disney this will be fitting. Chris Draft Family Foundation     He also heads up Team Draft after the death of his wife, my close friend Keasha, to lun g cancer. He has made it his mission to c hange the face of Lung Cancer. Keasha was not a smoker, b ut her life was still taken too soon by cancer. Please visit the links to learn more. I took some ti me at the end of the year to reflect on the highs and the lows. The biggest change in my art career was the daily painting challenge I accomplished in the Spring. It really sparked my passion for painting, and helped me grow as an artist . It was a fun challenge and I decided to paint wildflowers and then I started painted in purple. So violets appeared in the painting too. It just might be my next challenge. "Road Trip" © Kristye Addison Dudley 5" x 3" Pen and Watercolor on Paper Back to posting art daily after a vacation. We traveled from Georgia to Virginia to Ohio and back to Georgia. It was a long ride with a 21 month old and a 4 year old, but it was a beautiful ride. The mountains were breathtaking. There is something so amazing about being so high on a mountain. This is a sketch of the blue ridge mountains in pen and watercolor. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. I always find watercolor a challenge, it's very easy to get washed out colors, but this one still has some vibrancy. Just 4 days left in the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge! But I still found time to paint. It's a late one and I haven't felt my best today. But, today is a blessing and I am so glad that I was able squeeze in some time. Using a pallet knife I worked and reworked this canvas. I originally wanted to paint these bright red roses that are in our front yard. But I just didn't like where the work was going. So I chose this bright bloom instead.   Oil and Watercolor Study 2 © Kristye Addison Dudley Day 24 -  Oil and Watercolor Study 2. This is another watercolor and oil work. The technique, I wet my watercolor paper and then applied the watercolor and oil using a dropper. While using the dropper I started to create dot patterns. Then I used a toothpick to mix the colors. It reminds me of my printing days, looking at a sheets of paper coming off a printing press. Using a loupe (small folding magnifier), it was my job to check if the dots were in registration (lined up correctly). When the dots were correctly aligned, the image was crisp. This study  represents the organic out of focus version of that. Painting these dancers really makes me miss my performance days. In the Spring of 2001, I was auditioning for the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders (AFC).  I was excited, scared and completely clueless as to what being a professional cheerleader meant. I also had no idea of how it would change me and my life for the better. The support of my teammates encouraged me to pick up my paintbrush and paint again.
