Day 30 - Pop Art Portrait by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

It's A Small World © Kristye Addison Dudley
9" x 12" acrylic on paper

Day 30 - It's A Small World, the final painting of the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge.

I am so proud to have completed this challenge. Painting each day is such a commitment. But I grew so much during this month. I also have decided to continue to paint/sketch/explore daily.

In the spirit of this 30 day painting challenge, I decided to paint in a pop art style. Mark, my 20 month old son, was my muse for the day. I did a doodle of him after having a little dance party where he was wearing his groovy vest, Mardi Gras beads and of course his Mickey Crown.

Be blessed,
Kristye

Day 29 - Landscape Study Costa Rica by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

Day 29 - Detail of landscape study

This is a detail of a portrait I am working on for a commission.

I used pallet knives and brushes to create the foliage. More work to do on some of the finer details, but I do like where it's going.

One more day in this 30 day challenge!

Day 26 - Watercolor Dancer Figure Painting by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

9" x 12" Watercolor on Paper
 Day 26 - Watercolor Dancer

I changed the medium to watercolor for Day 26. This is a very loose technique using brushes. I always find watercolor a challenge, it's very easy to get washed out colors, but this one still has some vibrancy.

Just 4 days left in the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge! The countdown has begun. It's time to start thinking of my next challenge. Any thoughts on subjects for May?

Day 25 - Yellow flower Nature Landscape Painting by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

Day 25 - Yellow Sunflower Study

Today has been a busy day, birthday party at school for my 3 soon to be 4 year old and a charity auction tonight where I showed 3 small works. But I still found time to paint. It's a late one and I haven't felt my best today. But, today is a blessing and I am so glad that I was able squeeze in some time.

Using a pallet knife I worked and reworked this canvas. I originally wanted to paint these bright red roses that are in our front yard. But I just didn't like where the work was going. So I chose this bright bloom instead.

Thank you,
Kristye

Day 24 - Oil and Watercolor Study by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

Oil and Watercolor Study 2 © Kristye Addison Dudley

Day 24 -  Oil and Watercolor Study 2.

This is another watercolor and oil work. The technique, I wet my watercolor paper and then applied the watercolor and oil using a dropper. While using the dropper I started to create dot patterns. Then I used a toothpick to mix the colors.

It reminds me of my printing days, looking at a sheets of paper coming off a printing press. Using a loupe (small folding magnifier), it was my job to check if the dots were in registration (lined up correctly).

When the dots were correctly aligned, the image was crisp. This study  represents the organic out of focus version of that. In the future, I may try to have these two process meet in the middle and layer the dots to create a more complex image.  #artexperimenting #joyinart

Take care,
Kristye

Day 23 - Dance Figure Study in Purple Painting by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

Day 23 - I completed a painting that I worked on last week. Painting these dancers really makes me miss my performance days.

In the Spring of 2001, I was auditioning for the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders (AFC).  I was excited, scared and completely clueless as to what being a professional cheerleader meant. I also had no idea of how it would change me and my life for the better. The support of my teammates encouraged me to pick up my paintbrush and paint again.

I have been so blessed to live out so many of my life's passions. I am sending good luck to each of the ladies that are starting their journey to becoming a member of AFC this weekend.

Take Care,

Oil and Watercolor Study © Kristye Addison Dudley
6" x 4" Watercolor Paper

Day - 22 of 30 paintings in 30 days challenge!

I am in the home stretch! I am going to try some new techniques this week and finish some larger works.

Tonight I worked in watercolor and oil using only a dropper. I could control the colors used, but that was about it.

Underpainting © Kristye Addison Dudley
10" x 8" acrylic on canvas paper
Day 21 - I am nearing the end of the challenge and realized that I needed a visual change of pace. I decided to do some non-objective underpainting to free myself from the form.

This was done completely with the pallete knife.

Day 18 - it's been a wet rainy day here, but no complaints. I've been enjoying my family and listening to the sound of the water outside.

I've been hunkering down in the studio this month to paint. Tonight, I painted with my supportive husband by my side. I haven't finished this piece, but I did love having my best friend with me.

Here's day 18 - ballet dancer work in progress.

Have a blessed Easter Weekend,

Day 16 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

As a former gymnast, collegiate cheerleader and professional cheerleader it's no surprise that dancers are a favorite subject matter of mine. I have always enjoyed painting the dynamic expression of the body. Figure painting is something that I am continually drawn to. Now that I am at the half way point
of 30 paintings in 30 days challenge, I am going to focus on more figures. The new palette of colors that I am using is proving a bright change of perspective to the stylized figures.

Day 14 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge!

I just wasn't satisfied with the painting I started last night, so I painted another one! That is what this challenge is about, pushing myself and taking chances. I still can't believe I have been posting these everyday. But, posting them has been such a motivation. Thanks to all of you who have been cheering me on.

My sweet husband brought home a bouquet of my favorite flowers today, wildflowers and roses. The bouquet included a beautiful red sunflower and here it is.

As a mother of a 3 year old and a 20 month old, Saturdays can be very busy.

Here has been our day so far. Breakfast, shopping, Frozen (twice), lunch, played outside (bubbles/play set) and nap time. During nap, mommy got to PAINT! These marigolds were painted with a palette knife using short strokes and layering. Such a beautiful day. Time to wake up the babies and get outside. Maybe we will find more flowers for me to paint.

Hope you are having a great Saturday.

Day 11 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge is complete.

When I decided to look at my hometown of Clemson, SC for inspiration, the first visual images that popped into my head were of the flowers in Spring. The town was full of beautiful flowers, many were orange like the Marigolds featured above.
